CASE STUDY : Upgrade of Powerlink’s South Pine 275/110kV substation
South
Pine substation has had to undergo a major transformation due to
population and energy demand increases. Changes include:
> Full
change of the Protection and Control System on the 275kV portion of the
substation and addition of a Static VAr Compensator (SVC) connected at
275kV
> Complete redesign of the 110kV substation to accommodate
changes in fault levels and facilitate efficient rebuild of the 110kV
plant and busbar systems
Presentation will also look at the build
sequence and final design selected to ensure efficient and timely
delivery of the substation taking into consideration outages and
minimising operational risk to the network during the construction
process.
Gerard Reiter, Manager Projects, Powerlink Queensland

Current Australian standards for management of power quality in electricity networks
The
current Australian standards for the management of harmonics, voltage
fluctuations/flicker and unbalance in electricity distribution networks
will be described. The philosophy behind the standards, their general
content, and guidance on their practical application will be given.

Operating & maintenance needs of IEC 61850 substations
This
paper focuses on the life time requirements of the substation and the
organisational issues that will need to be dealt with even before you
are given the keys to your new substation, it explores:
- The need for technology in the industry
- What do you expect from an operation and maintenance perspective
- Training staff for skill change, knowledge development and competency creation
